For some, the word optimism conjures thoughts of unrealistic, ‘head in the clouds’ type thinking. But that’s not actually optimism.

Optimism is our ability to see possibilities in the difficulties we face, it’s not about being naïve or pretending there aren’t challenges to face.

Research suggests that having an optimistic mindset can improve our performance and resilience, while also protecting us against depression, anxious feelings and even chronic disease.

Unfortunately, an optimistic mindset doesn’t come naturally to many of us due to our negativity bias. The good news is – optimistic thinking is a skill that can be learned so teams can think creatively through the difficulties they face.
