Mental health matters for leaders – A cross-sector panel discussion – Free event

To kick-off National Mental Health Month at The Oranges Toolkit, three experienced business leaders representing private, public and not-for-profit sectors will join a panel discussion to explore:

  • what mental health and wellbeing means to businesses right now,
  • how they have built mentally healthy and high-performing teams and organisations, and
  • the key advice they would like to offer to both emerging and established leaders during this challenging time.

This esteemed panel are all generously donating their time to promote positive mental health and wellbeing awareness at this free community event. The panel will be expertly facilitated by Tegan Davies. In lieu of a ticket price, you may wish to make a donation to Camp Quality to support children facing cancer in Australia.

Deborah ThomasDeborah Thomas | CEO, Camp Quality
| Not-for-profit sector leader

Deborah Thomas is an experienced executive and board director, across both the corporate and not for profit sectors. With over 25 years of expertise in leadership, management and marketing skills, Deborah is the ideal person to lead Camp Quality into its next phase. Deborah has managed some of Australia’s most popular magazine brands, including The Australian Women’s Weekly, where she was Editor-in-Chief for nine years.

In 2015 she was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Ardent Leisure Group. Throughout her time in the commercial sector, Deborah has also been involved with many national Not-for-Profit (NFP) organisations, including the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation, The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation, Father Chris Riley’s Youth off the Streets and is a founding patron of the Taronga Conservation Foundation.

Gary EdsteinGary Edstein | CEO/Senior Vice President, DHL Oceania
| Private sector leader

Gary Edstein is Senior Vice President / CEO for Oceania, responsible for DHL Express operations in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and the Pacific Islands. Gary has worked in the transport industry for 43 years, initially for 11 years with Trans Australia Airlines (now the domestic arm of Qantas), where he was National Accounts Manager. He joined DHL in 1986 as Sales Manager, Victoria and has enjoyed various roles across the business before being appointed as CEO of DHL Oceania in 2003.

Gary is also a non-Executive Director on the boards of Council of Asia Pacific Express Carriers Australasia (CAPEC), Tasman Cargo Airlines and Camp Quality. In recognition for his contribution to the industry, Gary was named ‘Transport & Logistics Executive of the Year’ at the CEO Magazine’s 2016 Executive of the Year Awards.

Martyn CampbellMartyn Campbell | Executive Director of SafeWorkSA
| Public sector leader

Martyn is the Head of SafeWork SA, South Australia’s work, health and safety regulator. SafeWork SA regulates the Work Health & Safety Act across South Australia and supports workers and business to comply with it. Prior to moving in to this role, Martyn headed up the health, safety & security teams for a South African mining company, operating a gold mine in Papua New Guinea. He has worked on a number of other projects in the extractive minerals, oil & gas and construction industries in Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Fiji and Singapore.

Martyin is on the Board of Safe Work Australia representing South Australia, is the Chair of Heads of Work Safe Authorities and an Advisory Board Member of the University of South Australia Centre for Workplace Excellence. He is also a Member of the Australian Institute of Health & Safety College of Fellows Executive. Martyn has an Honours Degree in Law, a Masters in Law and a Masters in OHS Management is a Fellow and Certified Chartered OHS Professional with the Australian Institute of Health & Safety and a Certified Compliance Professional with the Australasian Governance & Risk Institute.

Tegan DaviesTegan Davies | General Manager, The Oranges Toolkit

Tegan’s passion for positive psychology grew during her 10+ years working at Camp Quality, the birthplace of The Oranges Toolkit program. During her time at Camp Quality, Tegan was responsible for heading up Learning, Development and Culture; rolling out the Oranges program to employees and volunteers across Australia. Tegan is now the General Manager at The Oranges Toolkit, a Board Member at Action for Happiness Australia and a business coach. She has qualifications in HR, Positive Psychology, Yoga Teaching, Event Management and is an accredited Strengths Profile practitioner.

The Mental health matters for leaders panel discussion will be presented via Zoom from 12:30pm on Wednesday 7th October for 1 hour. Please note that this is presented in AEDT – Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the illustrious panel.

This is a free community event to support mental health awareness in Australia as part of National Mental Health Month in October. Everyone is welcome!
